Hidden Colours - Family Activity

Next dates

Sorry, there are no future dates available

Get ready for a fun, hands-on activity for all ages that uncovers the secret colours and science in everyday things.

Date: Wednesday 29th October 2025
Time: 12pm - 3pm
Location: The Millennium Gallery
Cost: £3 suggested donation

You’ll explore how pH indicators from things like red cabbage and turmeric change colour, and test if household products are acids or bases. You’ll discover the answer to an age-old question: which crisps are the most acidic? And how sour are those sweets? Watch the colours change and find out!

Lots of things we think of as being one colour are really made up of a mixture. Is a black pen really black? Learn how to separate the colours and find out what is hidden inside. This event is in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University.

Suggested donation £3 – Please donate if you're able and help keep your museums open and available for everyone to enjoy.
